     Position Summary

    We are seeking a cybersecurity intern to work collaboratively with the Sands Capital Management cybersecurity, software development and IT operations teams.  In this role, the intern will focus on building a solution to address concerns around the security of open source code used in enterprise applications, particularly within a Docker based CI/CD environment.   Additional tasks will include using knowledge of technology and cybersecurity to perform penetration tests and vulnerability assessment to assess the tools and procedures that Sands Capital uses to protect, monitor, alert, and respond to issues within our information systems.


    This paid internship provides an opportunity to engage with experienced Information Technology, Cybersecurity & Software Development engineers within the asset management industry while working on extremely challenging, hands-on cybersecurity projects throughout the summer. 


    Essential Functions

    • Collaborate with cybersecurity and software development team members to build a container-based security framework for DevOps code testing within a continuous automation environment working with tools like Docker, Git, Jenkins, Jira and PowerShell.
      • Create a process to inventory open source component versions and identify where updates are available
      • Inventory contents of docker images to see if they contain components that need to be updated
      • Ensure that our source repositories are from trustworthy sources. Put controls in place to ensure our systems only take components from trusted repos
    • Work with an experienced CISO and security engineers to evaluate the Firm’s defense in depth strategy through hands-on penetration and vulnerability testing in red team/blue team exercises using a variety of tools and methods.
    • Work with cutting-edge cybersecurity tools including IPS, IDS, DLP, AI, browser virtualization, endpoint protection, behavioral analysis, SIEM, single-sign on, multifactor authentication and other tools to evaluate and improve models and configurations to enhance their effectiveness in securing the enterprise.
    • Participate in regular team meetings including daily SCRUM and weekly cybersecurity briefings.

     This full-time, paid internship lasts for 10-12 weeks, located in Arlington, VA, and begins either late May or early June.


     Necessary Skills and Qualifications

    • Currently pursuing degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity or a related field
    • Experience with computer programming and at least some of the following: C#, PowerShell, Jenkins, Docker, HTML5, SQL, Nessus, CentOS, Ubuntu
    • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, ACLs, network segmentation, firewalls and network analysis
    • Familiarity with ethical hacking techniques and malware analysis
    • A strong desire to work at the intersection of software development and cybersecurity
    • The capability to take ownership of work assignments, but still be a strong team player
    • You have the ability and interest in working full time on site at our Arlington, VA headquarters for the duration of the internship
